2020

On Saturday, March 7, 2020, URBAN URBANE joined hundreds of other people for the 22nd Annual Reverchon Roundup, a yearly initiative to clean up and beautify one of Dallas's oldest parks.

2019

2019 was an amazingly busy year for URBAN URBANE. Although I had planned on attending a few of the park clean up events in the early spring, the frequent rains made that nearly impossible. All said an done, I was unable to do any volunteer work the entire year.

2018

On Saturday, April 7, 2018, URBAN URBANE joined Keep Dallas Beautiful for a clean-up event at Tipton Park in West Dallas.

On Saturday, March 3, 2018, URBAN URBANE joined hundreds of other people for the 20th Annual Reverchon Roundup, a yearly initiative to clean up and beautify one of Dallas's oldest parks.

URBAN URBANE has earned and donated 2,500 Recyclebank points to the Nature Conservancy, which translates to a $10 donation. Recyclebank partners with municipalities to create a reward system for citizens who recycle. The more a person recycles, the more points they earn. While the City of Dallas does not currently work with Recyclebank, you can still join and earn points by learning about recycling, sustainability, climate change, and much more by watching slide presentations, taking online quizzes, and reading articles. Earned points can be used like cash to receive discounts on online shopping, gift cards, local services, or can be donated to charity.

2017

During the month of June, URBAN URBANE collected 102 pairs of shoes for Soles4Souls, a non-profit social enterprise that creates sustainable jobs and provides disaster relief through the distribution of shoes and clothing around the world.

Soles4Souls converts every used pair of shoes collected from the community into a value-added social currency to achieve positive humanitarian and economic change. Gently used shoes will be distributed to micro-enterprise programs that create jobs in Haiti, Honduras and other developing nations.

Special thanks to Common Desk in Deep Ellum, Kathy Wall State Farm, and Recycle Revolution for hosting collection boxes and for helping spread the word, as well as White Rock Lake Weekly and WFAA-TV Channel 8 for sharing the shoe drive information. (I apologize if there was anyone I missed.) Lastly, thank you to everyone who donated your gently-used shoes.

On Saturday, May 27, 2017, URBAN URBANE joined dozens of other volunteers and community groups at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery to help clean gravestones in preparation for the Memorial Day event on Monday the 29th.

On Earth Day 2017, URBAN URBANE joined the Turtle Creek Association for a community cleanup of the Turtle Creek corridor. If you would like to join the next event, visit TurtleCreekAssociaion.org for more info.

URBAN URBANE was proud to be a first-time participant in the City of Irving's Don't mess with Texas Trash-Off held at Trinity View Park on Saturday, April 8th. I joined about 250 other volunteers to pick up litter at the park and ball fields.

URBAN URBANE was proud to participate in the 19th Annual Reverchon Roundup on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Volunteer activities included picking up litter and fallen branches, planting new flowers and shrubs, and spreading mulch in the flower beds.

While the City of Dallas does not currently work with Recyclebank, you can still join and earn points by learning about recycling, sustainability, climate change, and much more by watching slide presentations, taking online quizzes, and reading articles. 2016

For the second time this year, URBAN URBANE is proud to be an official sponsor of the Trash Bash Music Stash to be held on November 5, 2016. A Trash Bash Music Stash was held in July in the lower Greenville area. November's Trash Bash will be held in Deep Ellum.

On July 23, 2016, URBAN URBANE joined Groundwork Dallas to pick up litter around Fishing Hole Lake in Dallas. If you would like to join their efforts, local area cleanups occur almost every Saturday, weather permitting. Visit GroundworkDallas.org for more info, or join them on Meetup.com.

URBAN URBANE has joined the GRABBITS campaign to pick up litter every day, photograph it, and upload and tag it on Twitter. You can get involved too. Just visit Grabbits.org to find out more. And check out my Twitter account to see more photos of my contributions.

For July 2016, URBAN URBANE took the Plastic Free July Challenge. Plastic Free July aims to "raise awareness of the problems and amount of single-use disposable plastic in our lives and challenges people to do something about it." During the month, participants should try to refuse ALL single-use plastic.

"By 2050 its estimated there will be more plastic than fish in the world's oceans. . . Plastic is designed to last forever, yet every day we use it for disposable items which last a few minutes and throw away. Most is landfilled, some is recycled and some ends up in the
environment. It is estimated that 8 million tonnes enter the oceans per year where it entangles and is ingested by wildlife. Every bit of plastic ever made still exists somewhere and in the first 10 years of this century there was already more plastic produced than the entire last century."

URBAN URBANE Is proud to be an official sponsor of the 2016 Trash Bash Music Stash on Lower Greenville. "The Trash Bash Music Stash is a genuine attempt to remove trash from our streets and put it where it belongs. Dallas native & musician, Brandon Giannasi (Gringo Soul) knew by offering music lovers & weekend warriors the chance to give back to their beloved city, that they would. By prompting volunteers to pick up litter, in exchange for a free multi-band concert with complimentary food & drinks, Brandon thought it was an offer most citizens would happily take part in."

The Trash Bash will be on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Truck Yard. Unfortunately, due to a schedule conflict, URBAN URBANE will not be able to participate this year. See the 2015 video below.

On June 11, 2016 URBAN URBANE participated in the monthly Turtle Creek Cleanup organized by the Turtle Creek Association. If you would like to join the efforts, the cleanup occurs once a month, weather permitting. Visit TurtleCreekAssociaion.org for more info.

URBAN URBANE was pleased to have the opportunity to participate in the Operation: Beautification project organized by the Downtown Dallas Neighborhood Association on May 21, 2016. Operation: Beautification is a citywide community cleanup effort initiated by the City of Dallas each spring.

In May of 2016, URBAN URBANE took the pledge to help Take Care of Texas. The TCoT pledge allows business to demonstrate their commitment to protecting the Texas environment by conserving resources, eliminating waste, and working to keep our air and water clean.
